A MalCare alternative that stops attacks before they land

ReportedIP Hive blocks attacking IP addresses, runs an OWASP web application firewall and protects every account with two-factor sign-in. There is no user limit on any plan, and one Professional licence covers three sites at 4.97 euro each per month.

Why do people look for a MalCare alternative?

MalCare is built around malware. It scans your site from its own servers and, on the higher plans, cleans an infected site for you. It is run by BlogVault, with its data controller in Bangalore, India, and servers in the United States and the EU. Two points send people looking elsewhere. Prices are per site and climb with every plan, from 99 US dollars a year for Protect to 499 dollars for Fortify. And two-factor sign-in is capped by user count: two users on the free plan, five on Protect and fifteen on Repair.

ReportedIP Hive is built for the other half of the job. Sixteen sensors, the firewall engine with the OWASP baseline ruleset and two-factor sign-in with authenticator apps, e-mail codes and passkeys are part of the free open-source core, for every user. Paid plans add our managed servers in Germany: SMS and e-mail delivery for two-factor codes, deeper firewall rulesets synced daily and one dashboard for every site.

When is MalCare still the better choice?

If your site is already infected, MalCare is the better tool. Hive does not scan files and does not remove malware, it stops attacks and secures sign-ins. Repair and Fortify include a cleanup, which is worth paying for when you are dealing with a hacked site today.

Many site owners run both: Hive keeps attackers out at the door, a scanner such as MalCare checks what is already on disk. The two do not get in each other's way as long as only one of them handles sign-in protection.

How do I switch from MalCare to Hive?

Switching takes about five minutes. Install Hive from the plugin directory and run the quickstart. It asks for the operating mode and, if you have one, your key, and it protects a single site without an account.

If you keep MalCare for scanning, turn off its login protection and two-factor so users only see Hive's prompt. Hive's report-only mode lets you watch what it would block for a week before it blocks anything.

Frequently asked questions

Is ReportedIP Hive a replacement for MalCare?

For the protection side, yes. Hive blocks attacking IP addresses, runs a web application firewall, protects sign-ins with two-factor and stops form spam. For malware it is not: Hive does not scan files and does not clean infected sites, which is the core of MalCare. If you need both, run Hive for protection and keep a scanner.

Does MalCare limit two-factor authentication?

Yes, by the number of users. On 20 October 2026 the MalCare pricing page listed two-factor for 2 users on Free, 5 on Protect, 15 on Repair and all users on Fortify. Hive has no user limit on any plan. Authenticator apps, e-mail codes and passkeys are free for every account, and SMS is included on Professional with 25 messages a month.

What does Hive cost compared with MalCare?

Hive Professional is 149 euro a year including VAT for three domains, which works out at 4.97 euro per domain a month. MalCare Protect is 99 US dollars a year for one site and 299 dollars for five. For five sites, Hive Business at 389 euro a year already covers fifteen domains. Every paid Hive plan has a 14-day money-back guarantee.

Where is my data processed?

ReportedIP is a German company and runs its servers in Germany, with a data-processing agreement available. In Local Shield mode Hive works fully local and no data leaves your site. MalCare names a data controller in Bangalore, India, and servers in the United States and the EU, so transfers outside the EU are part of using it.
