A Solid Security alternative built and hosted in the EU

ReportedIP Hive blocks attacking IP addresses, runs an OWASP web application firewall and adds two-factor sign-in with passkeys. The free open-source core needs no account, and one Professional licence covers three sites at 4.97 euro each per month.

Why do people look for a Solid Security alternative?

Solid Security started out as iThemes Security and has more than 700,000 active installations on wordpress.org. It belongs to Liquid Web and its Nexcess brand, both US companies, and is currently being renamed Kadence Security. Two things make people look around during that change. The Pro version is hard to price: on 20 October 2026 we found no standalone Pro price on the vendor's site, Pro comes bundled with Liquid Web and Nexcess hosting. And virtual patching by Patchstack, the protection against freshly published plugin flaws, is part of Pro only.

ReportedIP Hive takes a different route. Sixteen sensors, the firewall engine with the OWASP baseline ruleset and two-factor sign-in with authenticator apps, e-mail codes and passkeys are part of the free open-source core. Paid plans add our managed servers in Germany: SMS and e-mail delivery for two-factor codes, deeper firewall rulesets synced daily and one dashboard for every site.

How does Hive compare with Solid Security?

Structural differences only. Liquid Web sets its own prices and feature scope and may change them, check its site for current details.

When is Solid Security still the better choice?

Solid Security looks at your files and your plugin versions. File change detection tells you when something on disk changed, and the site scanner flags plugin versions with known flaws. Hive does neither, it blocks and authenticates at the door. If those checks are the reason you installed Solid Security, keep them next to Hive.

On Liquid Web and Nexcess hosting the Pro version is already part of the plan. If you host there and only need what Pro offers, you are not paying extra for it.

How do I switch from Solid Security to Hive?

Switching takes about five minutes. Install Hive from the plugin directory and run the quickstart. It asks for the operating mode and, if you have one, your key, and it protects a single site without an account.

Turn off the features both plugins share before you go live: brute force lockouts and two-factor should run in one plugin only, otherwise users meet two prompts. Hive's report-only mode lets you watch what it would block for a week before it blocks anything.

Frequently asked questions

Is Solid Security the same as Kadence Security?

Yes. Liquid Web, which owns the Nexcess brand, is renaming Solid Security to Kadence Security, and its documentation uses both names during the change. The plugin started as iThemes Security, so you may meet three names for the same product. The comparison on this page applies to all of them.

Can I run Hive and Solid Security together?

Yes, as long as each job runs in one plugin only. Two plugins that both lock out failed sign-ins or both ask for a second factor get in each other's way. A common split is Hive for blocking, firewall and two-factor, and Solid Security for file change detection and the vulnerability scan.

What does Hive cost compared with Solid Security Pro?

Hive Professional is 149 euro a year including VAT and covers three domains, which works out at 4.97 euro per domain a month. Business is 389 euro a year for fifteen domains. On 20 October 2026 Liquid Web published no standalone price for Solid Security Pro, it is included in Liquid Web and Nexcess hosting plans. Every paid Hive plan has a 14-day money-back guarantee.

Where is my data processed?

ReportedIP is a German company and runs its servers in Germany, with a data-processing agreement available. In Local Shield mode Hive works fully local and no data leaves your site. Solid Security belongs to Liquid Web, a US company, so its cloud features involve a transfer to the United States that you have to document.
